The Dress

So, other blogging update it is.

Not much on the wedding planning front to speak of. Nej and Cdub came down last weekend to go look at wedding dresses. We went to 4 stores in London, 3 real bridal stores and one that sold bridal dresses but was not a real bridal store.

I had the worst experience with the first store. Oh. My. God. The assistant was Horrible!!! She basically picked up one dress that she thought would look good and decided this was the dress I had to get. It was nice, but not really 100% the look I was going for. Oh that, and it was $1600. I had to ask her to help me do up the dress and provided absolutely no input to how the dress would look once it was bustled. On top of it all, she asked me if I wanted to put a deposit down on the dress that she had picked out for me, “or, if you want you can go have lunch, think about it, and come back this afternoon”. Seriously. She was messed up. I think that even if that WAS my favourite dress (which it was not), I wouldn’t get it now on principal.

The next real bridal store was much better though. The assistant was very helpful, did up dresses, held them tight, pointed out different angles, and different alterations that would be done. She showed me how all the bustles would look and encouraged me to try on the dress that I liked another time… twice! (so I had it on three times altogether) just to make sure that it was the one I like the best. Right now it is between this dress and the one that is similar to the one I posted below. This dress was fitted to about the natural waist and then flared out into an a-line, but not in a pouffy way. It had lace detailing on the front (two vertical stripes down the front and beautiful lace detailing on the back and the train. If also had a “champaign” ribbon around the bodice about halfway between the natural waist line and my breasts. It was strapless with a faint sweetheart neckline. Pretty, elegant and not princess-y with no satin. Meets all of my requirements ;)

I will be going back to Belleville this weekend for the engagement party that my dad is having for Arash and I. On Saturday Danielle, Sarah and I are going to go dress shopping again. I’m hoping that I can go back to the store that the other dress was at, and decide which of the two is my favourite. I hate picking favourites (hence the three brides maids but no maid of honour dilemma – Which by the way was solved by not having a maid of honour. The one that will sign the marriage documents will be the one that is tallest while wearing their intended shoes.) Hopefully I will somehow figure it out. It makes it doubly hard when the two dresses are separated by 400 kms. I can’t exactly try them both on in rapid succession.

Other than that. Need to get myself organized. Oh, and we did our engagement photos! I didn’t post them on here since most people probably saw them on facebook, but I will post the link again for non-facebook people (that is you EK and EL!!!)

I found one of the dresses

The first one I was trying to describe is this

Also, I forgot to mention two other things earlier

1) we took our engagement photos over the weekend. The camera was my D70, the photographer was my BIL, and the setting was the country around my dad's house. I posted the pictures on my facebook in case any of you haven't seen them

2) I have not one, not two, but three wedding related nightmares last night. in one I wasn't ready and the wedding was starting... I was wearing grey converse shoes. in another my hair was half down half up and falling out more by the minute. In the last... well, I don't remember the last, I just rememeber that there was another one.

Wedding Dress Shopping Take 1

So.

I guess you all might want to know about my first wedding dress shopping experience. It was fun. I had a good time.

We ended up only going to two of the stores and one of them was a super quick stop. D had to work at 4 pm, so we needed to get her back to work on time.

At store number 1 I tried on a lot of dresses. And I mean a lot. One annoying thing about that store is that they wouldn’t let you take digital photos for copyright purposes, which I understand, but they had also taken off the designer’s tags off the dresses, so I have no clue what the dresses make and style were so I can’t find them on the internet to show you. Anywho, at that store I saw two dresses that I liked. 1) was the first dress I actually tried on. It was made out of an organza/chiffon material and the top had soft tiers of material overlapping each other. It was strapless and there was a mocha coloured sash at the waist and opened to an a-line skirt. It was pretty simple, but very elegant. Kind of like this
2) was a soft white chiffon dress that had an empire waist embellished with beading. It was technically strapless but had decorative sashes to tie as a halter. They sashes were wide enough that they could be tied as capped sleeves as well.

At the second store there were a few dresses that I liked, but I really can’t remember the details about them, so obviously, they aren’t the dress for me. However, store 2 had dress 2 from store 1 for over $100 less than store one was asking. AND they had the maker and style information. S wrote it down, so perhaps I should ask her for the details to that I can see if I can find it on the internet.

The Dress

I love love love this dress.

Too bad it cost WAY too much money. If any Ugly Betty fans are reading this, the actress that plays hilda wore this dress when she got married.

T - 1 year...

So this is it. 1 year from today is my wedding day. Well, hopefully since we have done nothing to organize it yet ;) Mind you, with one year to go I would be VERY surprised if we have trouble booking anything.

As I said on my other blog, this weekend is the start of wedding dress shopping. Fun stuff. So far, I have seen a few dresses I like in the bridal magazines, but honestly, most of the stuff is just not my style. I don't want to wear a big princess dress with a poufy skirt, I think I am more of the simple elegent dress kind of girl.

My biggest dilema these days is who I am going to ask to be my maid of honour. I have no clue. I have three bridesmaids. My two sisters (S and K) and my best friend since Grade 9 (D). I was already Maid of Honour in S and D's weddings. I am probably closer to S than K, but it would be nice for K to get a chance to be a maid of honour, but then again, she lives far away. Like a 2 hour plane ride far. S is a teacher so she won't be able to take any time off before the wedding which rules out a lot of the stuff the maid of honour does in the days leading up to the wedding. (She would be able to make it in the evening though since her school is pretty close to Dad's). And then ther is D, she's like a sister to me, heck, when she got married in 05 MY dad gave her away.

A slightly easier decision was ring bearers and flower girls. Eddie will obviously be the ring bearer and Madison and Kailey with be the flower girls. Maddy will be 5 (holy crap) by then so hopefully she will be able to sheppherd the other two to the front (Kailey will be 2.5 and Eddie will be just shy of his second B-day).
